Product Ratings
Decanter 93pt

The Latchkey Vineyard is an estate site for Purple Hands, and this Pommard clone Pinot bottling shows classic red berries of the Dundee Hills in the nose and on the palate. Aromas of tart wild strawberry flesh, raspberry leaf, and dusty minerality announce this wine. The palate is abundantly structured, framing red currant and ripe raspberries, continuing with savoury fresh herbs of thyme and anise; the wine finishes with a spicy streak of sumac and black cardamom.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Latchkey Vineyard is from 18-year-old vines grown on ancient volcanic soils. A bit deeper ruby red, it's aromatic of black raspberries, rosemary, pressed flowers, and anise. Medium to full-bodied, it is ripe with a rounded, plush, approachable feel, but it has seamless structure and is going to age gracefully over the coming 12-15 years.

This is bright and vibrant, with red-fruited character offering notes of spices, cedar and bergamot. Medium- to full-bodied with a dusty texture to its tannins and generous fresh fruit. Chalky and minerally with a lingering finish. Drink or hold.

Refined yet energetic, with expressive cherry and pomegranate flavors laced with cinnamon and zesty spice notes. Finishes with medium-grained tannins.

Wine Advocate 95pt

The 2022 Pinot Noir Latchkey Vineyard comes from dry-farmed Pommard vines planted in Jory soils in 2006. It has intense, layered aromas of blueberry, pomegranate and rhubarb, plus nuances of rooibos tea leaves, earth and soaring floral perfume. The medium-bodied palate is bursting with generous, spicy flavors. It's structured by velvety tannins and vibrant acidity and has a long, layered finish.

Wine Enthusiast 91pt

The Latchkey is a two-course meal, with roasted pork shoulder and dark raspberry aromas accented by traces of cardamom and grilled watermelon. The flavors are as simple as big dark chocolate-coated cherry. This is an easy sipper, with a slick and slippery texture that whispers, Pour another glass.""

Vintage

The 2016 vintage had a warm spring with record-breaking heat units in April and May. This transitioned us into the earliest harvest date on record. Lower elevation Dundee Hills started to pick the end of the second week of August, and our last fruit was in the door September 16th. The summer wasn’t overly warm, though just warm enough to keep the vines moving forward, developing into a beautiful growing season and harvest. I think you will see the wines balanced and rich in a traditional Purple Hands Style.
