Product Ratings
James Suckling 91pt

Very ripe, warm and intense, with notes of plums, sweet berries, ground cloves, cedar and tar. Full-bodied with generous purple fruit character and creamy tannins. Plush and opulent. Drink or hold.

Wine Enthusiast 90pt

The nose of this wine is dominated by dried cranberry, apricot and plum aromas, with sweet vanilla and caramel in the mix. The palate is saturated and decadent, with a massive framework of oak on display. Five or six years in the cellar should help this wine come into focus.

The Goldschmidt Vineyard label is a program designed to showcase single vineyard source wines from both the Alexander Valley and Napa Valley Oakville appellations. Goldschmidt Vineyards Cabernets are crafted with the best possible resources to achieve exceptional richness, quality and balance – the hallmarks of world-class wines.

Description

Nick Goldschmidt is a global winemaker whose vast experience knows no bounds. He makes wine in California, New Zealand and Argentina, and he’s known for producing rich wines that are also incredible values. Nick also has an eye for sourcing exceptional fruit and in previous years, this wine was a single-vineyard Cabernet from Crazy Creek Vineyard, that for years went to Simi for their Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($75). The quality of the vineyard was recognized by Silver Oak and they purchased it recently. Moving forward the wine will bear the moniker Stonemason Hill, and in 2018, it’s a blend of fruit from Crazy Creek and Stonemason Hill, which is a site hand-selected by Nick Goldschmidt that’s located near Rattlesnake Hill and Blue Rock Vineyards. Nick selected it because he believes the character and terroir of this site will ensure the continued stylistic goals that have made the brand so successful.

Tasting notes

This wine shows an abundance of wild cherries, black raspberries, crushed rock and spice with striking concentration and balance. It out-performs most Cabernet’s at double its price.
