Product Ratings
Wine Enthusiast 91pt

From Crasto's vineyard in the Douro Superior, the wine has a smoky and warm-herb aroma. It has dense tannins and juicy black-currant fruits. The character is forward, ripe and young, Concentrated fruits are ready to soften further.

Wine Advocate 91pt

The 2020 Superior Tinto comes from their Douro Superior property, from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and some Sousao grapes to give it acidity. It was a warm and ripe year, and the wine achieved 14% alcohol but avoided over-ripeness (the vineyard is north-facing), with 5.1 grams of acidity. It's clean and modern, with integrated oak. It's spicy and tasty, with a smoky twist in the finish after spending 12 months in French oak barrels. 99,986 bottles and some other formats produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

Tasting notes

Deep dark violet colour. The nose is complex and engaging, offering aromas of wild berry fruits in perfect harmony with fresh hints of wood forest and fine spice. The palate starts in an elegant way, evolving into a wine of excellent volume and solid structure, with silky tannins giving a smooth texture. The finish is balanced and long lingering. This is an appealing wine that shows the unique identity of the Douro Superior. Serve at a temperature between 16-18 degrees celcius.

Estate

Nestled on a privileged location in the Douro, Quinta do Crasto is one of the oldest winemaking estates in the region – the name 'Crasto' is derived from the Latin word 'castrum', which means 'Roman fort'. The first known references to Quinta do Crasto can be traced back to 1615, long before the Douro became the world's first Demarcated Wine Region in 1756.

Description

This wine takes its name from the location of the vineyard from which the grapes come: Douro Superior (Upper Douro). The grapes used to make this wine come from our property Quinta da Cabreira where we have 114 hectares of recently planted vines.

Vinification

The grapes, coming from our property Quinta da Cabreira in the Douro Superior sub-region are taken to the winery in plastic boxes and rigorously inspected on a sorting table on arrival. The grapes are then completely destemmed and slightly crushed. After this, the must is transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.

Ageing

Aged in French oak barrels for about 12 months.

Appellation

Douro.
