Estate

Domaine Des Baumard is situated right in the heart of the Anjou, in the town of Rochefort-Sur-Loire, just south of the town of Savennières itself. The property has been in the Baumard family since 1634, but it was reconstituted and improved by Jean Baumard in the mid-1950s. Since 1992 the estate has been run with meticulous care by Jean's son, Florent, and the Domaine is now regarded as one of the greatest producers in the Loire Valley and one of the greatest producers of white wine in the world.

Domaine des Baumard

The Cremant de Loire appellation covers the region formerly known as Anjou and Touraine provinces. All of Baumard's sparkling wines are Cremant de Loire and thus subject to stricter regulations than your run-of-the-mill mousseux. A blend of roughly 60% Chenin Blanc and 40% Cabernet Franc, the Carte Turquoise has been produced at the Domaine des Baumard since 1957.

Vineyard

In the vineyard, rows are alternately ploughed and grassed. This helps to maintain the soil's microscopic fauna and humus potential and avoids soil-compression from the use of heavy machinery, such as tractors, in the vineyard. High training wires (over two meters) maximise leaf surface-area and avoid the need for topping during the vegetative time. The grapes are hand harvested and placed in pneumatic press.
