Product Ratings
James Suckling 96pt

Stunning now. A fabulous nose of currants, crushed raspberry and blackberry. Full- bodied, with perfectly integrated tannins and a long, caressing finish.

by James Suckling, 2014
Vinous Media 93pt

The 2005 Lagrange was picked from 21 September until 10 October. It has a harmonious and vigorous bouquet with blackberry, cedar, tobacco aromas and just a light estuarine scent that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins and much more mid-palate presence than prior vintages. There is more body and grip, a sense of boldness towards the finish that should stand it in good stead for long-term ageing. Superb.

by Vinous Media, 2020
Wine Enthusiast 94pt

The tannins dominate this dark, brooding wine. At this stage, it seems to have closed up, leaving the fruit and acidity buried. But with this concentration, the future looks promising.

by Wine Enthusiast, 2008
Wine Spectator 93pt

Currant, mineral, plum and light toasty oak follow through to a full body, with ultrasilky tannins and a long, caressing finish. This is thoroughly beautiful. Superbalanced and very pretty. Best after 2011. 24,165 cases made.

Weather Conditions

In 2005, only 400 mm of rain were recorded. This year will remain in all the wine-growers' memories because of the exceptional weather conditions. Fresh mornings allowing to preserve acidity.

The Chateau

The vast vineyard of Lagrange spreads over 117 uninterrupted hectares in Saint-Julien appellation. In 1855, its passionate and visionary owner, the Count Duchatel, contributed to its classification as a third growth. Today, the hard work that has begun in the 1980s, continues. The great care taken to the vineyard (yield control, harvest by hand) and the vinification plot by plot give birth each year to a rich and elegant wine, with a long ageing potential. The wne property is one of the very few in Medoc producing a white wine: Les Arums de Lagrange. Bruno Enyard and his team defend the principles of respect for environment, development of a unique site and exchange with people who have a passion for wine.

Tasting Notes

Sweet, toasty, oaky notes interwoven with hints of black olives, blackberries, cassis, and spice box are found in this densely saturated ruby/purple-hued 2005. While rich, with impressive concentration and purity, it is also tanic, full- bodied, and painfully backward and foreboding. This is another long-term prospect that will require patience.

Tasting notes

Dark colour with ruby highlights for this great vintage with astonishing youth. The nose has truffled aromas giving way to more fruity notes: cherry, black cherry, licorice and cedar notes. Evolution shows menthol notes. The attack is rich and vibrant. The midpalate is suave with a pleasant freshness, the whole presents a harmony and a rare elegance worthy of the greatest wines of Saint Julien
