Product Ratings
James Suckling 95-96pt

This is the greatest wine ever made here. Incredible depth of fruit and power yet always polished and in reserve. Super depth of fruit. Layered. Amazing. Made from biodynamically-grown grapes.

Wine Advocate 89-91pt

The 2015 Durfort Vivens has a predictably leafier and more herbaceous bouquet than its Margaux peers, though not unattractive with a slight steely edge. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm, grainy tannin in the mouth. I appreciate the balance here and compared to recent vintages, there is clearly more fruit concentration on the finish, a pleasant salinity on the aftertaste. For those that prefer a leaner style of Claret, this comes recommended, and as I have seen in the past, it tends to put on weight by the time it is in bottle.

Wine Enthusiast 97pt

Initially firm and dry, this wine blossoms quickly with its delicious fruit and penetrating acidity. Fine tannins sustain this black-currant and berry fruit along with the complex texture and structure. Produced from biodynamic grapes, the wine has great potential.

Vintage

2015 is our third year in biodynamics throughout the vineyard. The very favorable climatic conditions accentuate the benefits of this farming which respects and encourages the natural balances between the vine and its environment. The climatic conditions were exceptional. The mild and dry winter announced a beginning of constricting vegetative cycle. But winter precipitation, although moderate, was sufficient to ensure water reserves. Spring was ideal. The exceptionally low rainfall compensated for the absence of winter cold and contained the phytosanitary pressure, especially since the beginning of the period was rather cool. April and May are hot and dry, ensuring uniform bud burst and growth. We could not hope better conditions for the blooming which is done completely and very quickly in all the parcels. Until veraison, the vineyard takes full advantage of sunny weather. The setting is fast and complete. The sanitary condition of the foliage and grapes is perfect. The heat wave episode of late June and early July causes an early water deficit that quickly triggers veraison. The few rains at the end of July arrive at the perfect moment to avoid any blockage and start the ripening of the grapes. With sunny days and cool nights, maturation is slow, regular and complete. These conditions are maintained in the late season and provide us with the attitude to harvest each of our parcels at its optimum maturity.
