Tasting notes

Medium-high robe, cherry red with bluish rim. Fruit is the dominating aroma, with notes of blackberries mainly, but also hints of cherry. Fruit is expressed once again on the palate, & the lack of additional sulphites emphasizes this fruity flavor.

Vintage

Following a dry and exceptionally warm winter that accelerated budding, there was a particularly wet spell in March that resulted in considerable pressure from fungal infections until the summer. From July onwards, the weather was favorable and the plots that were spared the fungal diseases produced a harvest of excellent quality.

Vinification

Manual harvest during the second half of September. Maceration for seven days, with the minimum possible intervention, no plunging of the cap or pump-overs. Devatting is manual with very light pressing. Malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with no sulphites being added in the process. Certified Vegan.

Description

A natural, fresh and vegan Rioja. Alona, which means “a strong, beautiful woman,” gives its name to this natural wine, which was made without the use of sulphites. It is made entirely with grapes from some of the top vineyards in the Rioja Sonsierra and Alto Najerilla.

Vineyard

Tempranillo grapes are grown in vineyards in the Sonsierra, a region ideal for growing this variety due to its microclimate and soils. Garnachas are grown in the Alto Najerilla, a higher altitude region with numerous old vines of this varietal.
