Description
This wine takes its name from the location of the vineyard from which the grapes come: Douro Superior (Upper Douro). The grapes used to make this wine come from our property Quinta da Cabreira where we have 114 hectares of recently planted vines.
Estate
Nestled on a privileged location in the Douro, Quinta do Crasto is one of the oldest winemaking estates in the region – the name ‘Crasto’ is derived from the Latin word ’castrum‘, which means ‘Roman fort’. The first known references to Quinta do Crasto can be traced back to 1615, long before the Douro became the world’s first Demarcated Wine Region in 1756.
Tasting notes
Deep dark red, with purple hues. Intense, fresh and complex aroma profile, showing notes of wild
fruit and fresh hints of woodland and spice. The palate starts balanced and elegant, evolving into a
wine with powerful, yet silky tannins that oer a rich, velvety texture. The finish is long and elegant.
This is a serious wine that mirrors the uniqueness and identity of the Douro Superior.
Serve at a temperature between 16 and 18 degrees celcius.
Vinification
The grapes, coming from our property Quinta da Cabreira in the Douro Superior sub-region are taken to the winery in plastic boxes and rigorously inspected on a sorting table on arrival. The grapes are then completely destemmed and slightly crushed. After this, the must is transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Aged in French oak barrels for about 12 months.
