Product Ratings
Wine Advocate 94+pt

You'll recognize this wine by its classy packaging that features a red wax seal on the front label. The Mastrojanni 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is a little shy initially. A few more years, even months, of bottle age should get it to shine. The bouquet is detailed and precise with small forest fruits, dried rose, earth and light spice. It pieces together well over a bright, medium-weight mouthfeel.

by Wine Advocate, 2024
Wine Spectator 94pt

This Brunello deftly weaves its cherry and currant fruit with eucalyptus and tomato leaf notes, all in a succulent, elegant frame. Its fluid profile and powdery tannins make this accessible now and over the next decade or more.

James Suckling 95pt

Restrained yet intense wine. The nose is fresh with red cherries and pomegranates, integrated violets and a rose-water touch, as well as a vibrant, schist undertone. Full-bodied and graceful, with super elegant tannins, juicy acidity and a long, tense finish. Drinkable now, but best after 2025.

Vinous Media 92pt

Vivid black cherries are complemented by minty herbs, cedar shavings and hints of stone dust as the 2020 Brunello di Montalcino evolves in the glass. It floods the palate with juicy textures and ripe wild berry fruits as an air of lavender and sweet spice amass toward the close. The 2020 tapers off with spicy tension, leaving a tinge of sour citrus and a tart cranberry concentration, all framed by well-rounded tannins.

Mastrojanni has been writing history with its wines since 1975, collecting awards from all over the world. Today, thanks to an exceptional terroir and men who have believed in it for decades, Mastrojanni has become one of the most respected Montalcino producers. The Mastrojanni winery lies in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the south eastern most corner of Montalcino Municipality, in the Province of Siena. An artistic and architectural heritage, surrounded by the majesty of its natural landscapes and, above all, an area particularly suitable for vine cultivation: the homeland of Brunello.

Tasting notes

The wine shows a ruby and bright red color, the nose has an intense bouquet of cherry and pulpy, ripe plum embellished with spicy touches, earthy and mineral nuances and intriguing notes of undergrowth. On the palate the noble tannic texture of Sangiovese stretches tight and impressive but also velvety, balanced by acidity and juicy freshness that confers elegance and long persistence.
