This 2009 Eszencia is the oldest and darkest in color in comparison to the other vintages in the vertical line up. It is all power and concentration, developing beautiful earl grey and aged puer tea notes, with dried blue flower and Chinese aged tangerine peel aromas. The fruit profile is more plummy with aromas of dates and dried persimmons. Hints of dark chocolate and coffee add another layer to it. Burnt raisins. Dates. It also has more density than others, closer to 2016, but the acidity is more gentle, making it more cloying, with a honey and toffee-like character. Full and slow pouring.
