Product Ratings
Jeb Dunnuck 98pt

Deep purple-colored, the 2017 Cote Rôtie La Mordoree (a mix from the La Cote Brune and the Cote Blonde lieux-dits) is another incredibly concentrated, yet elegant and ethereal wine from Chapoutier. Rock star levels of kirsch, black raspberries, spring flowers, smoked game, tapenade, and graphite give way to a full-bodied, rounded, straight-up sensationally textured Cote Rotie.

James Suckling 94pt

There’s a deep, dark-stone impression to the nose here with graphite and wet slate, as well as plums, star anise and licorice. The palate has a very plush, peppery and deeply fruited feel with such intensity and depth to the dark plums and blackberries. Slate and pepper to close. Good depth.

Wine Advocate 96pt

A blend of Cote Blonde and Cote Brune (the actual lieux-dits), the 2017 Cote Rotie la Mordoree is a top-notch example of this cuvee. The Chapoutier team now picks and vinifies the parcels separately, which has allowed them to fine-tune the picking dates. It boasts an exciting melange of berry fruit flavors, is silky and medium to full-bodied in the mouth and finishes long.

Estate

With roots dating back to 1808, M. CHAPOUTIER is one of the oldest companies in the Rhône Valley. Yet, its world renown and the quality of wine can truly be accredited to the arrival of Michel Chapoutier in 1990. His willingness to change the set way, thirst for knowledge and open-mindedness, together with his drive to seek, discover and reflect the full potential of our terroirs, letting the soils express their true character, has put our wines firmly on the wine world map. This philosophy is what gives our wines their signature style, forms the basis of the M. CHAPOUTIER ethos and drives our team to reveal the very best of what the soils have to offer.

Vinification

The grapes are entirely destemmed and vinified in concrete tank. Daily pumping over ensure a good extraction of the colour and tannins. The temperature of vinification does not exceed 32°C. Only the free-run juice is used. Aged in oak casks (225 liters), with a proportion of new ones between 14 and 18 months.
