Description
Henri Martin's lifetime achievement was no doubt the creation of Chateau Gloria. Row by row he patiently and
systematically negotiated with his friends in the commune of Saint-Julien to buy these various cru classe
parcels to eventually make up the Chateau Gloria estate. So why isn't the Chateau a cru classe? The answer
is simple: it didn't exist at the time of the 1855 classification. This Saint-Julien Chateau nevertheless
lives up to its name as one of the top producers in the region today. Esprit de Gloria is the second wine
of the estate made from the younger vines. It reflects the typicity of the Saint-Julien appellation and may
be enjoyed younger. It is an excellent introduction to the beauty of Saint-Julien.
Tasting notes
Beautiful intense garnet color. The nose is subtle, fruity and elegant. In the
mouth, the wine is round, balanced and supple. The tannins are melted and
silky. Nice persistence in the finish.
Ageing
14 months in casks, an average of 40% of which are
replaced. 45% of new barrels.
History
Exceptional and unique estate created by Henri Martin,
this vineyard was indeed gradually put together piece-by-
piece thanks to the purchase of several plots from
mainly classified Growths in 1855. Today, the origin of
the terroirs, the care given during the growing and the
vinification explain the quality of this wine that is now
famous worldwide.
Vineyard
40 vears-old vines on average situated over 3 zones: in
the centre of Beychevelle, in the West and North of the
appellation.
Vinification
Traditional method in stainless steel vats with
thermoregulation.
